Dr. Steens performs special endoprosthetic primary and revision operations of the hip and knee joints – a focus that prompted him to move to the renowned ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg back in 2002, where he spent five years deepening his specialist spectrum.
Dr. Steens performs about 650 procedures of varying degrees of difficulty each year. These include special reconstructive procedures for extensive bony defects of the pelvis as well as arthroscopic surgical procedures on the hip and knee joints.
He treats patients from all over Germany. However, patients from the United States, Canada and various other non-European countries also trust Dr. Steens’ expertise.
He is also one of only a few certified cartilage specialists in Germany and treats degenerative cartilage damage as well as cartilage damage caused by sports injuries to the hip and knee joints according to internationally established standards and surgical techniques.
Dr. Steens is also currently one of only a few surgeons in Europe who implant up to 200 “PSI knee prostheses” per year. PSI stands for patient-specific instruments – an innovative system that allows the surgeon to perfectly match the implant to the individual patient.
As a reference surgeon, Dr. Steens is significantly involved in the further development of ZimmerBiomet’s PSI system. He regularly conducts hands-on surgery courses and appears as a speaker for various surgical techniques at national symposia and congresses. As the initiator of the ECTOS surgical course, he provides advanced surgeons with the opportunity for further surgical development.
Dr. Steens has been a partner in the Orthopaedic Neurosurgery Center since 01.10.2010. He is active in the entire field of conservative as well as operative orthopedics. Particularly in questions of diagnostics and therapy of complications, he is always available to advise and surgically assist affected patients, also through interdisciplinary cooperation with experienced colleagues and within the framework of his freelance scientific work at the Orthopaedic University Hospital Rostock.
